Role

Uptick is seeking an exceptional and experienced Senior Product Owner to run our product function as we continue to scale abroad.

The Senior Product Owner will report directly to the CTO, and work alongside a Senior UX and a high-powered large engineering team. We're looking for someone that has spent most of their career-to-date in late stage startups / early stage scale-ups building great product, and who understands technology enough to ask the questions to turn a 13 into an 8.

The Senior Product Owner will need to get deep with our customers and prospective customers, understanding their hopes, dreams, bugbears and delights. You’ll also have an essential role in helping us build a product engine that assimilates information from sales, marketing, implementation and success, creating an empowered product team not a feature factory.

What you'll need to do

To succeed in this role a candidate must be able to:

  • Deeply understand the ‘why’, and guide the engineering team to deliver it. We run a lean process, with an exceptionally talented engineering team. Challenge everything until you understand the core nugget of value, ship it, and iterate until our customers are delighted.

  • Manage the backlog, tame the chaos, make the hard calls. Just because it’s the top priority doesn’t mean we can spend a whole sprint on it. You’ll need to be able to juggle priorities and maintain pace.

  • Tell the story. You need to understand where we’re going, why we’re going there, and be able to communicate with exceptional clarity to your stakeholders (customers and colleagues), both at the big-picture roadmap level and the release level (every month).

  • Dream big AND see small. We’re the most expensive product in our market, our customers expect great things that they can’t get elsewhere, but it’s the details that change the life of our users. You need to be equally comfortable in turning our big bets into reality, as you do in noticing that there’s a quick win for a sucky but important widget.

To succeed in this role you'll need to:

  • Listen to each of the primary business functions (support, marketing, sales, implementation) to build a high performing product feedback loop that delivers product releases that customers love.

  • Assimilate the product and industry, and use that knowledge to drive great decision making.

  • Work effectively with the engineering team to build knowledge, not specifications, and juggle the competing priorities of moving fast while maintaining an excellent code-base for our business-critical product.

What you'll need to bring

To qualify for this role you'll need to:

  • 5+ years experience in a product owner position at a B2B or B2E startup.

  • A solid understanding and interest in various product methodologies, but more importantly, first hand experience in building great product.

Bonus points for:

  • Previous experience in field service management or an understanding of our customer base.

Who you'll need to be

We're looking for people who:

  • Endlessly curious. So they get to heart of the issue.

  • There for the team. At their best when working with other great people.

  • Loving the vibe: Plant and dog friendly

Our values

Our culture begins with our values:

  • Care: We care enough to have the hard conversations and work to create an environment where our employees feel safe to challenge and be challenged.
  • Growth: We're all here to grow the business, and we do that by growing our people and customers.
  • Impact: We're changing an industry and we will have an outsize impact by making every day count.
Company background

Uptick is quickly becoming the global leader in field servicing for the building compliance niche. Having already conquered the Australian market, they are now growing in the UK, with sights set on North America and then the world.

Building compliance is an increasingly important part of maintaining the world's largest asset class - property - and Uptick's vision is to make the compliance of every building in the world visible in real time, disrupting a clunky and slow-moving industry while having an outsize positive impact on the world.

Uptick's core product, Uptick Workforce, helps companies manage their mobile workforce to perform legislatively required and often complex routine asset maintenance activities. Their product allows customers to uniquely identify every building and every piece of equipment in that building, creating opportunities for tie-ins to facility management, insurance underwriting, and local government or emergency services.

Uptick currently has 250+ customers and a 99% retention rate. Over 450,000+ buildings and nearly 10 million assets are maintained using Uptick's software every year. Their goal is to double in size in FY22/23, largely through international expansion into the NZ and UK markets.

The business recently received a significant investment round from Accel-KKR. This investment and partnership will enable Uptick to fuel their international expansion, grow their customer success capabilities and accelerate their ambitious product roadmap. This marks Uptick's fourth funding round - early investors include Australia investment firms such as Folklore Ventures and Equity Venture Partners.
